The Knitwit Stable

Let’s introduce Trek&Trees, the sustainable knitwear of the Knitwit Stable. It’s still summer, but winter will be coming soon. An early morning shoot to create the Dutch feeling of colder days.

Benthem and Crowel architects are introducing their new partners. Here we are directing them for the groups-picture.

Suzanne Oxenaar, director Lloyd Hotel

Suzanne is one of the brains behind the open, creative and artistic concept of the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. She doesn’t like to be photographed. She’d rather be filmed. But in the end she really liked her portraits. Lucky me!

Christelle Munganyende

Activist Christelle Munganyende has a strong and eccentric appearance. I loved taking her portrait for the cover of One World Magazine. Check!

Big Art – Anne van der Zwaag

I photographed her some time ago. And again: curator Anne van der Zwaag is a person with an incredible positive energy that just makes you laugh! It was fun to meet Anne again at Big Art in Amsterdam.

Paul Hoek

This week local hero and artist Paul Hoek visited my studio. A small preview… to be continued… If you are curious about his work, please check:

Tough Cookie!

After Milan I went to Lugano to take photo’s for fashion designer Christina Schulte. Our model Amy broke her hand just the night before, but this couldn’t stop her. We actually liked the cast. Tough cookie!

Arita 2016

This is where the magic comes from! For the second time I was in Arita, Japan for the wonderful project of 2016/. Artisans from Arita, specializied in porcelain, are linked with 16 international designers to create 16 new collections for a new brand: 2016/. I photographed parts of the process and landscapes of Arita for a project book that will be published by Phaidon. The presentation of the products and the book launch will take place in Milano at Milan Salone 2016. For more information, please check the project website with photos by Kenta Hasegawa.

Remodeling in Berlin

To continue our project Remodeling, I went to Berlin in August together with Kumi. We met great people, discussed our project and Kumi started designing the book. We also did some very nice portraits.

This is me, preparing a shooting, being the stand-in myself and testing flashlight, supposed to be ‘anti-fashion’ somehow.

Remodeling in Berlin

selected for 1000 photos

My pile of woods got selected by Peter Bas Mensink as ‘pick of the day’ for 1000 photo’s exhibition during unseen festival Amsterdam. Nice!

Plastic Soup

Joost is not only modelling, he actually is helping to keep the streets clean by picking up garbage in his free time. I did the cover-shoot for samsam magazine this spring. I love it. Art-direction: Barbara Pilipp

Sarah McDougall

I met singer songwriter Sarah McDougall some five years ago in Vancouver, Canada – Neeltje interviewed her for our project ‘Mountains in My Backyard’. Last month she had a show in Paradiso. We met that afternoon to shoot some new photo’s here in Amsterdam.

Kim Janssen

Usually my style is quite natural and I avoid the use of heavy filters on portraits. For singer-songwriter Kim Janssen it felt like a good idea to apply some effects this time. And still it feels kind of natural. I like it a lot.

Costa Rica

In Costa Rica I passed by this beautiful leaf. I just had to take its portrait.

Shiori Goto

Last week I was in Tokyo. I met Shiori, a great chef with a sparkling mind! It was a big pleasure to take her picture!

Still remodeling

This project is mentioned about a year ago: Kumi and I have been working whenever possible to make a series of portraits inspired and based on people’s descriptions of fashion-advertising (working title: remodeling). We will be making a book and exhibition. Due to our commissioned work it will probably take another six months until we can proudly present the result. Be prepared!

One of our models is Germaine. On our FB-page we show – just like this one – photographs of our work in progress. Not the definite ones.

Alley Sessions!

For Alley Sessions we filmed and recorded live performances of musicians and bands in the beautiful alleys and corners of Utrecht. The project is produced by Dunder Blixem. The last session was with two members of the Dutch band Kensington.

Solomonica de Winter

For her novel: ‘Die Geschichte von Blue’, I was asked to take pictures of Solomonica de Winter. Her book came out in German language at publisher Diogenes last month.

For Baker Tilly Berk I took this portrait of the one and only Jan ZEEMAN.

Christina Schulte Fashion

We had a great time shooting for Christina Schulte Fashion Milano

An old photograph of mine is recently used in France for the book cover of Jim Fergus: Mille Femmes Blanches. Bon!

Poster in the City

My photo of Mano Bouzamour was used for his promo in the city of Amsterdam.

The Black Atlantic

This kind of dark and morbid photoshooting with Geert last fall turned out to become this awesome tour poster for his solotour!

The German feeling of Fernweh (might be translated to wanderlust) has always been accompanying me and is an old friend of mine. Obviously influenced by my travel experiences, I started making a series of silkscreens where I use my own photographs as a basis for my visual story.
Together with Judith Hofmann, we invited a bunch of artists and talents to join us and make work for this theme for a graphic exhibition called FERNWEH. Our exhibition will take place at the same time as the ‘Maand van de Grafiek in Nederland’.
The 29th of September we will be showing the works of 17 artists at Dynamo Expo. From the 25th until the 27th of October the works will also be shown at Depot BG in Amsterdam.

New identity and website

We’ve been busy during the summer. Of course, we’ll be making a few last edits in the coming weeks, but still… my new website is online! My whole new identity, including this website, has been redesigned by graphic designer Barbara Hennequin. So expect me to be handing over new business cards and sending you fresh looking invoices in the upcoming months!

At the moment I’m working on a new project with designer Kumi Hiroi. We are working on an interesting, funny and beautiful series about posing and modeling – I’m excited to show you more soon! We already did 12 shootings.
One of them was with Hanna:

‘Nicht mein Tag’

During the production of Peter Thorwart’s new movie I took some photographs on set. Super nice to see this hard-working crew! I was lucky to have one of my very favourite actors in front of the camera: Moritz Bleibtreu together with Jasmin Gerat. I took this awesome portrait of them with their Ford Mustang on the beach. A beautiful setting! ‘Nicht mein Tag’ will be on German screen in Januari 2014. I’m looking forward to it!

WeTransfer in the US

Last year a fashion-photo of mine was used as a background on file-transfer website This year they launched their US-version of the service in the US and used one of my Brooklyn Bridge landscape shots to advertise. Awesome!
